The Beginning

Welcome to my blog. Once I saw a video on raising a copper cup from a sheet of metal I was sold. I wanted to become a Silversmith.

My wife and I were having a discussion one night about a hobby the whole family could partake in, possibly creating a family-owned business. We wanted to look up more creative ideas then the normal, so we went to the Internet. On our searched we discovered Metalsmithing and that’s when it dawned on me, I could start creating all kinds of metal cups and metal jewelry.
So from there I started my research on the basics of becoming a Silversmith. I spent time watching editorial videos, downloading, and buying books on different tools, metals, and techniques. I created my workshop and started my first project. As we continue, I’ll be showing you step by step how I created the different kinds of cups. I’ll talk about my findings and how I improved each cup, with each project. I hope with each post I can engage your attention and pass on my knowledge, so you too can improve your Metalsmithing.

  1. The very best of luck to you and your family. I very much look forward to following you on your journey. From a personal perspective, from someone who could have written an introduction as you have; The journey is often steep and very frustrating, especially if, like me also, you go it alone. I urge and encourage you to keep on working towards gaining a greater understanding of your chosen craft. Not too many people do partake, you may bump up against the many walls that perhaps go some way to explaining that. Smash them down, one by one, the fact it takes so long is reason enough to continue. I wish you all the joy I experience when a plan comes together. All my very best wishes. Stu Art 🙂
